Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Aidan Simmonds

Poulton, Lawson Shine as Mules Seal it Late

Dartmouth, Massachusetts - The one way to avenge a poor second half performance from the day before? Come from behind in the second half while shooting almost 45% from the field. The second day of the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament pinned the hosts, UMass Dartmouth, up against the Mules. A must win game to bring Colby back to .500 turned first half scare put the pressure on for the second half. In the end the Mules delivered, pulling away from their opponents to win 80-74, taking their record to 2-2.

Colby started the game with a 5-0 run, immediately setting the tone. But from then on neither team pulled away more than 3 points until late in the half. Jack Lawson had a huge first half, scoring five points in a seven point Colby scoring run to give them back the lead. With three minutes to go in the half the Corsairs jumped to a five point lead but Kameran Rodriguez and Lucas Green brought the game within two heading into the break. The Mules trailed 39-41 at half.

Coming out of the break Colby broke away. A momentum filled 4 minutes saw Max Poulton hit a 3 followed by a steal by Liam O'Connell which led to a breakaway layup by Poulton. The next possession the Mules got a big defensive stop, sending Marcos Montiel to the line who made both. After leading by 7 Colby never looked back, even stretching their lead to 14 later in the half after another three from Poulton who led scoring with 27 points. Lawson had 12 rebounds and 25 points en route to another double double while also shooting 74% percent from the field. In the end Colby hung on to win by 6 after Rodriguez sealed the deal with 6 of the Mules' last 8 points in the game.

Colby is in action again Tuesday as they head across town to take on Thomas College at 7:30pm.
