Colby Triumphs in 'Battle of Waterville'

Waterville, Maine - This away game for the Mules was a ten minute drive down the road against cross-town rivals Thomas College. The Terriers hung around for the first half but not for long as the Mules made quick work, taking the win 87-53. Colby's record now stands at 3-2 but still have yet to play a game in NESCAC conference play.

Colby led early on but not by much as their biggest lead came from a three pointer by Savion Stroud to put them up eight. Thomas ended up coming back and led by as much as nine before Sam Poulton hit two go-ahead threes and a jumper inside the arc to give the Mules some momentum. Colby closed out the first half in control as big threes from Sam Hinman and Marcos Montiel have the Mules a 45-31 point lead heading into half. Compared to their shaky three point shooting in their previous games, Colby shot 47% and made eight threes in the first half.

Coming out of the break Thomas College couldn't get close. Lucas Green's had seven of his fourteen points in the first five minutes of the half and added four more in the next five minutes, helping to stretch Colby's lead. Liam O'Connell also had a big half, scoring all of his nine points in the first ten minutes after the Mules came out of the locker room. Although Colby didn't shoot as well from beyond the arc, they dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Terriers by 19 in the half. Jack Lawson led the scoring for the Mules with 15 points and shared a team high eight rebounds with Green. In the end, the quality of Colby allowed for coach Damien Strahorn to rotate the squad as substitutes Matthew Lamy and David Stewart got some minutes and had six and five points respectively.

Colby is back in action again Sunday, November 26th as they host Salve Regina at 1:00pm.
