Dartmouth, Massachusetts - Saint Josephs's entered this game as the heavy favorites, ranked just outside the Division lll top 25. Although the Blue Jays eked out a win, Colby went toe to toe with one of the nation's best, losing 70-79. The Mules fall to 1-2 but have yet to play a NESCAC conference game.
The first have was evenly split as both teams couldn't break away from one another. Colby led most of the half, their largest lead of 10 points was slowly shaved down to one going into half. This 10 point lead was spearheaded by
Max Poulton who had consecutive scoring possessions, converting on a tough layup and a wide open three pointer. Colby capitalized on multiple defensive stops as
Marcos Montiel and
Jack Lawson knocked down jumpers from the paint. The Mules led going into the break, 34-33.
From here on out it was a battle. There were ten lead changes and twelve tied scores as the two couldn't be separated. Up until five minutes left in the game, the lead never went over two points for either team. In the end, Colby couldn't close the gap as multiple missed three's ended the Mules' potential comeback. In the first half Colby shot an insane 42% from beyond the arc but the second half only saw around 14% which was crucial in their efforts to close out the game. Poulton led the team in points with 16 while
Lucas Green and Lawson each had 14.Â
The Mules will face off tomorrow against UMass Dartmouth as they look to bounce back from a hard fought game.
