Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team topped Williams College 4-2 Saturday for their first win of the 2023-24 season. The Mules improve to 1-0-1 on the young season while the Ephs, after beating Bowdoin last night in overtime, fall to 1-1-0. After the first weekend of conference play Colby trails only Trinity in the NESCAC standings.
After a scoreless 65 minutes Friday night in a 0-0 stalemate with Middlebury, Colby wasted little time Saturday firing the siren.
Henry Molson scored Colby's first goal of the campaign just under five minutes into play, assisted by
Jack Sullivan and
Ryan Doolin. Williams tied the game moments later, but
Will Molson put the Mules back in front off a great feed by
Griffin Grise, sending the two squads into the first intermission with Colby ahead 2-1.
The lone goal of the second period came off the stick of
Jayden Grier with first-year
Matthew MacDonald picking up his first collegiate point with an assist. Williams closed the gap early in the third period, but a late empty net score by
James Tepper sealed the victory for the Mules.
Colby is back in action after the Thanksgiving break with the Colby/Bowdoin Classic, facing NEC Saturday, November 25th at Bowdoin College before returning home the following day to face off against Suffolk University.
