Bangor, Maine — Men's soccer dominated the second half of their away game versus Husson University to secure a 3-0 win, improving their overall record to 4-2-2.
Colby and Husson went toe to toe in shots in the first half, but Colby held possession for much longer, adding pressure to Husson's defense. It wasn't until the 27th minute that there was the first shot attempt. Colby's Ryan Stewart was first to challenge Husson but missed just right of the net. This was one of the 2 shots on Husson's goal for the half. Husson also tallied two shots for the half with Gus Confalone making 1 save in the net.
Entering the second half, both teams remained scoreless but not for long. Right out of the gate, at 45:20, first-year Luke Pentikis found an opening in the low left side of Husson's net to put Colby on the board. This is Pentikis' first goal of his collegiate career. This goal was assisted by Mario Simoes. In the 54th minute, Husson attempted a shot on goal, but this was saved by Cameron Ashley, who made his first appearance of the season in the net for the Mules. In the 64th minute, another one of Colby's first-years, Colin Leon, added a goal to the board for the Mules. This was Leon's first goal of his collegiate career, which was assisted by Nicholas Donnelly. Colby's underclassmen players led in most of the game's statistics, displaying Colby's widespread talent across all four classes.
Although Colby was up 2-0, they weren't done yet. Colby's Mario Simoes scored in the 77th minute assisted by Joseph Beshel to widen the lead. Husson remained scoreless throughout the game, and Colby earned a 3-0 win.
Colby will be back at Serdjenian Field for a home game versus Middlebury College on Saturday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m.
