Lewiston, Maine — Men's Soccer earned a conference win with a goal in each half of the game, leaving the Bobcats scoreless throughout. The Mules ended tonight's game with a 2-0 over Bates College.
Colby's Mario Simoes opened the game with a shot saved by Bates' goalkeeper. Not too long after, Eduardo Casanova blew past the Bate's defenders to score Colby's first goal of the game and his fifth of the season. By the end of the first half, the Mules were up 1-0, tallying five shot attempts and McCarthy making two saves.
For the majority of the second half, Colby held possession. In an attempt to put another point on the board, Colby's Myles Culley tried for a header shot that went just high of the net. Eventually, in the 88th minute, first-year Lleyton Bristow, assisted by Nicholas Donnelly, scored Colby's second goal of the game and his first of his collegiate career. Bristow's goal put the Mules ahead 2-0 to secure a comfortable lead against the Bobcats.
Overall, the Mules had a strong conference showing this season. They remained competitive with conference teams while sweeping all non-conference competitions. Colby Men's Soccer just missed their chance at the #8 seed to make playoffs. Thus, despite the win over Bates, they will end their season with a 6-6-2 record.
