Volleyball Celebrates Senior Night with Dominant Win Over Wheaton College

 Waterville, Maine. - Colby's relentless winning streak continued as they hosted the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's volleyball team at the Margaret M. Crook Center in Waterville, Maine, and secured a dominant 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-12, 25-17). This victory marks Colby's eighth consecutive win, bringing their season record to an impressive 15-5, while the Lyons now stand at 11-9. During this matchup, Colby celebrated Senior Night, a special occasion dedicated to recognizing Hannah Wyllie's remarkable contributions throughout her time with the Colby Volleyball Mules.

Colby's performance was highlighted by an outstanding .277 hitting percentage, including two sets with a .333 or higher hitting mark. Sydney Bopp, a sophomore middle blocker, led the charge for the Mules with seven kills in just 10 attempts, boasting an impressive .700 hitting mark. She also contributed four solo blocks and three digs. Sophomore LJ Grant, a sophomore outside hitter, delivered six kills with a .357 hitting percentage and two digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Alli McKenney was instrumental with a match-high five aces in addition to two digs. First-year setter Allison Rodriguez orchestrated the offense with 19 assists and five digs, and first-year libero Reanna Yadao anchored the defense with 12 digs and an ace.

The opening set saw a tight start with Colby holding a narrow 7-6 lead. However, the Mules unleashed a powerful 10-point run, featuring a pair of kills each from first-year outside hitter Brady Moseley and first-year right-side hitter Sarah Friedrichs, to establish a commanding 17-6 advantage. Colby continued to extend their lead, ultimately taking the set 25-14 for a 1-0 match lead, with a remarkable .417 hitting percentage. In the second set, Colby surged ahead by scoring eight unanswered points. The Lyons attempted a run to narrow the gap to 11-8, but the Mules responded decisively by claiming the final 11 points, securing the set 25-12. During this run, McKenney unleashed four aces, and Bopp delivered the final kill. The final set witnessed early back and forth, with Colby leading 5-2 before a 6-2 stretch, driven by two kills from sophomore outside hitter Sydney Lyon, propelled Wheaton to an 8-7 lead. However, the Mules regained control, scoring seven of the next eight points to establish a 16-12 lead, with Grant delivering a trio of kills during this rise. Colby secured the final four points, including a final ace from first-year Sophie Broesamle, sealing the match victory.

Colby is set to host two games on Saturday at 11:00 AM. and get back to action against Illinois Wesleyan University and Endicott College.
