Waterville, Maine. - During Homecoming Saturday, the Colby Volleyball team hosted two games, one against Endicott and the other against Illinois Wesleyan, with the aim of extending their winning streak. They achieved a dominant victory over Endicott in four sets (25-14, 17-25, 25-15, 25-21). However, they faced a challenge in their game against Illinois Wesleyan, losing in four sets (22-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-16). While this ended the Mules' previous winning streak, it marked the beginning of a new one as they prepare for the NESCAC Championship.
The match against Illinois Wesleyan commenced with the Titans securing two sets, providing a challenging test for Colby. Nevertheless, the Mules responded with a strong performance, winning the third set convincingly with a score of 25-14. Despite their efforts, Colby couldn't prevent Illinois Wesleyan from ultimately clinching the victory. In the entire match, the Mules' collective performance resulted in 40 kills with an efficiency rate of .112%, six aces, five blocks, and 74 digs. Standout players includedÂ
Brady Moseley who led the charge with 17 kills, followed by
Azariah Love with five kills, and
Olivia Drayden with four. At the net,Â
Sydney Bopp was a force with 4.0 blocks, complemented by
Sarah Friedrichs with 3.0 blocks and Moseley with 1.0 block. The assist leaders were
Allison Rodriguez with 17 assists and
Jordan Lee with 13 assists. In the defensive line,
Reanna Yadao stood out with 18 digs, supported by
Sophie Broesamle with 14 digs and Lee with 10.
In the second game, Colby used the previous loss as a springboard to initiate a new winning streak against Endicott. The Mules secured the first set, experienced a setback with a 17-25 loss in the second set, and then bounced back to clinch the match in four sets. Throughout this game, Colby's offensive performance was highlighted by a total of 44 kills with an efficiency rating of .152. They also delivered 13 aces, executed nine blocks, and made 71 digs. The offensive charge was led by
LJ Grant with 11 kills, closely followed by Moseley with 10 kills, and contributions from Bopp and
Marjorie Johnson with six kills each. Notable contributions came from Bopp and
Alli McKenney, each delivering two aces. Bopp also dominated in the blocking department, leading with 4.0 blocks, while
Reanna Yadao showcased impressive defensive skills with 20 digs.
Colby will hit the road once again for its final two NESCAC games next Friday and Saturday, facing off against Williams and Amherst.
