Brunswick, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team extended its streak against Bowdoin College to 12 straight undefeated matches, winning in Brunswick Saturday night 4-0. The last defeat at the hand of the Polar Bears came in December of 2015. Over that stretch Colby is 11-0-1 with the lone tie coming in December of 2018. The Mules improve to 10-6-2 overall, 8-3-1 in conference play, while Bowdoin falls to 11-6-1, 5-6-1 in NESCAC action.
After an exciting back-and-forth first period ended deadlocked at zero, John McElany broke the scoring open early in the second frame with his team-leading 7th goal of the season, assisted by
Tyler Crist and
Clay Korpi. McElaney tallied four goals in two NESCAC wins last weekend, and Saturday night he gave the Mules the charge it needed to open the floodgates against their hosts. With another goal in the second (
Jake MacDonald) and two more in the third (
Griffin Grise,
Ryan Doolin), the Mules guided the sellout crowd to the exit gate well before the final bell sounded.
With 25 saves, goaltender
Andy Beran recorded his third shutout of the season en route to earning his second consecutive Peter Shuh '96 Memorial Award, presented to the MVP of the Colby-Bowdoin game held in Brunswick.
Colby is back in action next weekend with the longest road trip of the season. The Mules will ascend the Adirondacks Friday to face off against Hamilton in Clinton before navigating the Berkshires Saturday to take on the NESCAC's second-ranked team of Amherst College.
