Williamstown, Mass.- Colby College Women's Ice Hockey defeated the Williams College Ephs 2-0. The Mules are now 9-4-0 overall and 3-4-0 in NESCAC conference competition.
After four tough games against a difficult Hamilton College team and last year's NESCAC champions Middlebury College, the Mules were looking for a win in the new year. The first period was very even with two power play attempts by Williams and one power play attempt by Colby.
Paige Bolyard maintained a strong defensive presence ensuring the Ephs did not make any power play goals. This first period defense was representative of the defense for the remainder of the game, as the Mules held the Ephs to only 50 shots in comparison to 84 shots by Colby. In the second period, Colby maintained a strong offensive with
Breanna Studley scoring her fourth goal this year off an assist by
Mattie Tremper and
Audrey Shirer. With only five seconds to go in the second period
Meg Rittenhouse scored a goal off the breakaway bringing Colby up 2-0 going into the third period. Although scoreless in the third, the Mules ended the game on an offensive and defensive high note. The 27 saves by
Paige Bolyard, only one off her career high, were a big contributor to the victory for Colby.
Tomorrow at 3:00 pm Colby College Women's Ice Hockey will rematch the Williams College Ephs.
