Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Mules Defeated in Riveting OT Ending

Waterville, Maine- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey Team completed the weekend series against the Middlebury College Panthers. The Mules lost 4-3 in overtime, bringing them to 8-4-0 overall and 2-4-0 in NESCAC conference competition.

The Panthers got the early lead through a long goal against the Mules only 3:10 into the first period, however, before the end of the period a power play goal by Meg Rittenhouse off an assist by Tate Senden and Jillian Mazzocca put Colby back on equal ground with the 1-1 tie. In the second period, the Mules displayed their offensive prowess with a second straight goal by Meg Rittenhouse off a steal, and a goal only a minute and a half later by Jo Tattersall putting the Mules up 3-1. Towards the end of the second period, Colby stopped Middlebury's offensive push with strong defense, preventing any goals by the Panthers in the second period. Nearly halfway into the third period, the Panthers scored a goal to close the gap to 3-2. With only 1:11 left Middlebury tied up the score, producing an intense final minute before heading into the Mules' first overtime of the season. After exchanging shots and blocks throughout overtime, the Panthers snuck past the Colby defense to score the game-winning goal with only one-second remaining and prevent the shootout. Despite the loss, goalkeeper Mandy Busky displayed her defensive prowess with her third straight game with 26 saves. Meg Rittenhouse also reached her 10th goal of the season in only 12 games.

Next Friday Colby College Women's Ice Hockey will travel to Williamstown, Massachusetts to play against the Williams College Ephs at 7:00pm.
