Waterville, Maine- Colby College Women's Ice Hockey returned home to play the first game in a weekend series against the Middlebury College Panthers. The Mules fell to the Panthers 3-2 for their third straight loss, bringing them to 8-3-0 for the season and 2-3-0 in NESCAC competition.
After a nearly scoreless first period, the Panthers scored a goal bringing the score to 1-0. This goal by Middlebury accounted for the fifth straight unanswered goal against the Mules. Colby controlled the last three minutes of the first period offensively, but struggled to score the puck until
McKinley Karpa put it up high with only 1.6 seconds left to tie the game going into the second period. This goal marked the first goal by the Mules since the December 10th game. Only 1:18 into the second period
Meg Rittenhouse scored her eighth goal of the season to give Colby their first lead of the game.
Meg Rittenhouse leads all NESCAC Women's Ice Hockey players in points with 16 points for the season. A power play by the Panthers put the game back to 2-2 before another goal five minutes later marked the game-winner for Middlebury.
Tomorrow at 3:00 pm Colby College Women's Ice Hockey will play the second game in their weekend series against the Middlebury College Panthers at the Jack Kelley Rink at the O'Neil | O'Donnell Forum.
