Box Score Lewiston, Maine - The Colby Women's Tennis team kicked off their 2022-23 season this weekend at the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates College.  The tournament compiled players from Brandeis, Trinity and Bates for a weekend packed with singles and doubles play.

There were three flights of singles ranking from A to C, and 2 flights of doubles ranking from A to B. Colby had two singles players in each flight and 2 doubles teams in each flight.
 
In the A singles draw, junior captain Sam Riordan had a bye in the first round and eventually fell in an extremely tight three set match to eventual champion Anastasia Sia from Brandeis. First year Maddie Omiciolli also lost in a three set contest in the top flight.
 
Sophomore Caroline Kittle made a run to the finals of the B singles group, defeating opponents from Brandeis and Bates, but came up just short in the final round.
 
Senior Caleigh Mcclain in her final fall season with the Mules was the highlight performance of the weekend as she won the C flight taking out competition from Bates and Brandeis. McClain and her doubles partner, first year Ellie Gershaw, also picked up two match wins in the B doubles draw.
 
The doubles tandem of Riordan and Omiciolli picked up a win in the A doubles draw, as did first year duo Isabella Suk and Amelie Gal. 
 
"It was a great first weekend with the team," said McClain. "I was extremely impressed by our first tournament of the year, especially our new freshman. I'm excited for next weekend where we will continue our energy and wins from the past two days!"
