Boston, MASS - Colby Baseball traveled to Tufts University in a double header yesterday, April 2nd. The first game began at 12:00 PM and the second at 2:30 PM. The Mules won the first 10-4, but fell short in the second game of the day, 4-8. Colby struggled to score in the first game, but were able to put together a very strong fourth inning with nine runs, giving them enough runs to win the game within one inning. The second game was much more stagnant, with the Mules scoring only four runs throughout the game, three of which also came in the fourth inning.
Freshman pitcher, Jack Borher, got the win in game one. He pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs.
Nicholas Thompson and Mathew Scibilio filled out the other time on the rubber. Thompson pitched two and Scibilio one, impressively neither pitcher allowed a run. The Tufts starter, C. Mayer was taken out partway through the top of the fourth after allowing eight earned runs.
Cabot Maher led the Mules in hits, runs, and RBIs; with three, two, and three respectively. Colby did spectacularly with runners on base, leaving only two out there throughout the entire game. When given the opportunity the team has performed spectacularly and will look to continue their great play.
Unfortunately, in the second game Colby Baseball failed to keep pace with Tufts offensively. The game actually began at 3:00 PM, thirty minutes behind schedule. Senior,
John Doyle was charged with the loss after pitching three innings and allowing three runs.
Elijah Cohen also pitched three innings, but instead allowed four runs (three earned).
Ryan Grecco and
Mark Sunoo also saw time on the mound with Grecco pitching 1.1 innings and Sunoo 0.2.
Brady O'Brien and
Drew Miller led the team in hits with two each. Miller had two runs of his own while O'Brien batted two in. The other two runs came from RBI singles by
Marcus Forrester and short stop
Charlie Furlong.
The Mules are now 11-3 on the season, with two of those three losses coming this weekend. They'll look to bounce back from a tough weekend when they host Thomas College on Monday, April 4th at 5:00 PM.
