Mules Fall to Division One Opponent

Orono, MAINE - Colby Baseball took on the University of Maine on Tuesday, April 19th at 5:00 PM. Right before the matchup, the Mules had swept their NESCAC rival Bates college. In the last five contests between these two teams, the Bears are 5-0 in close battles. Unfortunately, they became 6-0 after this one. Colby fell 4-13 against a very tough, division one, University of Maine team.

Cabot Maher was charged with the loss, pitching two thirds innings and allowing three runs on three hits. Besides Maher the mound was taken by Charlie Jodka, Michael Ciaccio, Moises Celeya, Howell Eglin, Ryan Grecco, Matthew Scibilio, Jack Pletter, and Zach Lurie in a tandem approach. Jodka pitched the most of any pitcher, going for only one and one third innings. Together, the Colby pitching staff allowed 13 runs on 12 hits. All 13 runs were earned.

The Mules struggled at the plate as well, being carried offensively by Brady O'Brien and Charlie Furlong. O'Brien had three hits on four at bats and Furlong had two hits for three RBIs. Cabot Maher had the final RBI on his lone hit of the day. The biggest problem for Colby was being unable to string hits together. By the end of the day, The Mules had left 12 runners on base. Thus, they were unable to convert their hits into runs leading to defeat.

Colby Baseball will look to bounce back on Friday, when they host their other NESCAC rival, the Bowdoin Polar Bears. First pitch is at 4:00 PM. Julian Erro will get the start and the opportunity to set the tone for the Mules in this matchup.
