Middlebury, VT - The Mules traveled for a conference match for the first time since the third week of March. The Mules against the Panthers was a long-awaited match-up since the Mules beat a top-ranked Tufts, Salisbury, and no losses in the NESCAC.
Colby was taken by surprise in the first half with Middlebury putting away seven goals to our one. Middlebury went up 3-0 in the first quarter with big plays from Erin Nicholas but the Mules would not let the quarter close without a scoring at least one goal.
Ainsley Dion capitalized on a free position shot with 50 seconds left int he first quarter. The rest of the half, the Mules struggled to hold off the Panther attack and were unable to score again.
There were clear adjustments made at halftime by the Mules. With three minutes left in the third quarter, the Mules had brought the score to 8-3, in a clear position to make a comeback. Overall, the Mules were even with the Panthers in regards to ground balls, turnovers, draw controls, and caused turnovers. The Mules were unable to capitalize on their offensive opportunities and ended the game only able to score seven goals. The Mules have two more games before playoffs and look to make the Panthers their only loss and learn so that the next time they meet, the result may turn the other way.
With a week off the Mules will fine tune their offensive and defensive systems to challenge Trinity College on Saturday April 23rd at 12:00pm. The following Wednesday at 7:00pm, the Mules will play their final regular season game against Bates College.
