Waterville, MAINE - Colby baseball hosted the Bates Bobcats yesterday, April 16th, for a doubleheader. The Mules also played the Bobcats on Friday, April 15th, winning in dominant fashion. They continued that dominance yesterday, winning both games, and completing a three game series sweep over their NESCAC rival. Colby won game one with a shutout victory, 9-0. They also won game two, 5-1. First pitch for game one was at 11:00 AM and for game two it was at 1:30 PM.
6'2 freshman
Jack Bohrer got the start and the win in game one, improving to 3-1 in his college career. Jack pitched four shutout innings and allowed only one hit.
John Doyle pitched the remaining three innings of the game, allowing no hits or runs. The Mules held the Bobcats to one hit in the entire game, but that didn't stop the bats from rolling on the other side of the ball. Colby scored nine runs on ten hits and nine RBIs. Right fielder
Marcus Forrester led the team in hits with three in four at bats. Third baseman
Brady O'Brien had the second highest total with two hits, but he also added a pair of RBIs to his game resume.
Drew Miller and
Charlie Furlong also contributed two RBIs, both on one hit.
Game on was a showing of absolute dominance for the Mules, and game two continued the trend. However, it was 5-1 rather than 9-0. Sophomore
Nicholas Thompson got the start and the win in game two, improving to 2-1 on the year. Thompson pitched seven innings, allowing only one earned run on three hits. He threw 87 pitches and faced 26 batters.
Matthew Scibilio and
Jack Pletter closed out the game for Thompson, each pitching an inning and allowing zero runs but one hit.
This time,
Brady O'Brien got the team lead in hits with three, also batting in two runs. The remaining three hits of six for the Mules came from
Patrick McConnell,
Marcus Forrester, and
Matthew Panker. Forrester had an RBI as well. Finally,
Cabot Maher had a sacrifice RBI, accounting for the last of the four earned runs for the Mules. Game two relied more heavily on defense for the Mules than game one, but it was still a dominant showing and a victory to be proud of.
Colby baseball plays next when they travel to Orono, Maine to take on the University of Maine on Tuesday, April 19th at 5:00 PM.
