Brunswick, ME - The Colby College Men's Tennis Team just narrowly got outplayed by the Bowdoin College Polar Bears on Thursday, April 14th by a score of 5-4. The Mules struggled early on in the doubles, with both the #1 and #2 positions going down by 1-4 and 0-5 respectively. Sam Henry and Max Schuermann brought the score back to 5-5, but ultimately fell 8-6. With the duo of Joey Barrett and Jake Cohen fallling at the #1 position, James Bogdanovic and Jan Wenger came up huge for the Mules with an 8-6 win at the #3 position to give the Mules a doubles point.

Heading into the singles, the Mules knew they needed at least 4 singles match wins to clinch what would have been the biggest win in program history. Schuermann came up big for the Mules at the #4 position with a straight sets win to make the overall match score 2-3 after Wenger fell at #1. Barrett soon followed up with an incredible performance at the #2 position to make the match even at 3-3. Cohen, who has only lost one singles match this entire season, continued his stellar spring with a straight sets win at the #3 position to give the Mules the edge at 4-3.

With only four courts in the Bowdoin College Farley Field House, #5 singles Sam Henry and #6 singles Ben Powis were the last ones to go on and both matches would decide who would win. Henry didn't quite find his footing in the onset of the match, going down a set and a break early on. Powis also did not find his rhythm in the beginning, losing his first set. Despite a late second set comeback, Henry fell, evening the overall score at 4-4, meaning that it all came down to Powis. He came up huge for the Mules with a tight second set win and a strong start to the third set, but ultimately fell 3-6 in the final set, giving Bowdoin a 5-4 victory.
