Colby Baseball Sweeps UMPI in Double Header

Waterville, MAINE - The Colby Baseball team began their season on a very strong note this past Saturday, March 5th. The Mules hosted the University of Maine, Presque Isle in a double header, with the first game starting at 11:00 AM and the second at 2:30 PM. Colby won both games in dominant fashion, shutting out the Owls 6-0 in the first and scoring prolifically to win 11-2 in the second.

The right handed pitcher, Elijah Cohen, got the start for the Mules in the eleven O'clock game. Cohen pitched six innings, the entire game in this cae, allowing one hit and no runs. He also recorded five strikeouts, a great start to the season for the sophomore ace. Colby scored three runs in the bottom of the second, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. As a team the Mules had the bats rolling, getting seven hits and two doubles for six RBIs. They also took advantage of unearned appearances on base, with two bases on balls, four by hit batter, and by moving runners around with three stolen bases. Marcus Forrester had a great game at the plate, recording two hits on four at bats for four runs batted in.

The 6'2 freshman, Jack Bohrer, got the start in the second game. Bohrer pitched 4.2 innings, collecting eight Ks in that time. He allowed three hits and two runs before exiting the game. Jack finished with an ERA of 1.5 and a win. In this game Colby scored three in the third inning, four in the fifth, and four in the sixth. U-Maine was only able to score two runs, all in the top of the fifth. The Mules had ten hits, four doubles, and a home run. Brady O'Brien hit the home run, but he did far more than just that. O'Brien was perfect from the plate in the game, having three at bats resulting in two hits and a walk. He also had five RBIs, two runs of his own, and two stolen bases.

Colby Baseball couldn't have opened their season any better. They'll look to continue their great start when they host Brandeis University in another double header this Saturday, March 12th. First pitch in game one is at 1:00 PM and game two is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
