Medford, Mass. - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team opened the 2022 season on the road against #3 Tufts University. The Jumbos are the defending NESCAC Champions and advanced all the way to the semifinals in the 2021 NCAA tournament. Defending home turf with a bang, the hosts won their opening game of the 2021 season over the Mules 27-7.
Dominating face offs and possession at the start, the Mules struggled to keep Tufts at bay, as the Jumbos scored 15 first quarter goals. Colby's first score came with 1:21 remaining in the opening quarter, with
Jack Rickards finding the back of the net. The Mules would record back-to-back goals shortly after, with
Noah Froio and
Jack Goller scoring to make it an 18-3 game. Tufts was able to net a few more to extend its lead to 23-3 at the half.
The teams would be even on the scoreboard for the second half at four goals apiece. Jake Surette had a team-high two goals, and starting goalie Matt Suffredini had seven saves.
Colby is back in action Tuesday hosting Maine Maritime Academy at 7:00pm.
