Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Mules Move on to NESCAC Championship with 6-4 Win

Waterville, Maine- The Men's Hockey Team played against the Continentals of Hamilton College this afternoon at the Jack Kelley Rink in the O'Neil | O'Donnell Forum. Hamilton came in as the No. 5 seed, after defeating No. 4 Wesleyan last weekend. No. 1 Colby had previously lost in regulation and had an overtime win against Hamilton College during regular season play. The Mules would defeat the Continentals with a score 6-4, Andy Beran making 29 saves in the win.
 
The Mules absorbed the energy of the crowd, breaking through the Hamilton goaltender at 12:47 of the first period, with Jake MacDonald scoring off a feed from Jake Klein and Drew Burke to give the Mules a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Hamilton then scored three minutes later to tie the game at one. Senior Quinn Doyle scored to give the Mules the 2-1 lead with twenty seconds remaining in the period. John McElaney would tally his first of two assists on the night off of Doyle's goal.
 
Hamilton began the scoring for the second period, tying the game at two just under two minutes into the second. Junior Jake Klein scored a goal of his own at 8:28 of the period with Max O'Brien and NESCAC Rookie of the Year Jack Sullivan being credited with assists. Jacob Thousand went on to score his third goal of the season and second of the NESCAC Tournament with Sullivan tallying his second point of the night. The Mules would go into the final twenty minutes of play with a 4-2 lead over Hamilton College.
 
With a power play opportunity at 8:31 of the third period. Senior Michael Thomas collected a rebound off the Hamilton goalie, sending it right by the right shoulder of the Hamilton goaltender to give the Mules a 5-2 lead with Brian Sanzone getting the lone assist on the power play goal. One minute later Hamilton cut the Mules' lead to two bringing the score to 5-3. With just under a minute and a half to play, Hamilton scored their fourth goal of the night with six skaters on the ice to bring themselves within one goal of tying the game. Thirty seconds later, Quinn Doyle finished off the game by scoring an empty net goal, with John McElaney getting his second assist. The Mules would go on to win with a score of 6-4 over Hamilton College. Quinn Doyle would finish the game with a game-high +3, five shots on goal, and two goals.
 
The Mules are back in action tomorrow afternoon in the NESCAC Championship against No. 2 Trinity College at 2:00 PM at the Jack Kelly Rink on the campus of Colby College.
