Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Scores in Last Second, Tops #13 Hamilton

Sparks, Md. - Thursday, the ninth-ranked Colby Women's Lacrosse team took on #13 Hamilton College in Maryland as part of their southern tour during spring break.  Hamilton came into the contest riding a five-game win streak to start the season, including wins over ranked opponents Bowdoin and Amherst.  With a thrilling come-from-behind victory, the Mules topped the Continentals 10-9.

Colby finished the opening quarter on top, with goals from Ally Franz and Hallie Schwartzman giving the Mules a 2-1 lead.  The Continentals took over in the second frame, executing draw controls and scoring four goals to open up a 5-3 lead at the half.

The Mules began the second half with a goal by Annie Eddy and Franz's second tally, knotting the score at five apiece.  The two teams would trade goals for the remainder of the third and most of the fourth, until Hamilton opened up a two-goal lead with less than three minutes to play.  That's when Colby found some fireworks, scoring three goals within 48 seconds, and taking the game with a buzzer-beater by Eliza Dean.  Dean converted her only shot of the game for the winning score, putting the Mules on top 10-9 and delivering Hamilton its first loss of the season.  Elizabeth Hennessey scored three goals on the afternoon, and Franz and Eddy each had two.

"Our focus today was to do your job and trust the people around you," said Head Coach Karen Henning.  "They took it to heart today and never, ever gave up.  Against a strong team like Hamilton, playing through the ups and downs without losing confidence is so key."

Colby will remain in Maryland for Saturday's matchup against top-ranked Salisbury.  The Sea Gulls head the IWLCA Division III rankings with a 9-0 record, but they have yet to face a NESCAC opponent this season.  Game time is set for 12:00pm.
