Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Mules Top #11 Wesleyan in Connecticut

Middletown, Conn. - The Colby Women's Lacrosse team ran its conference record to 2-1 to start the year with a 15-7 win over 11th-ranked Wesleyan.  This is Colby's second win of the season over a ranked opponent as the Mules opened the season with a 9-4 win over then #2 Tufts.

There was no doubt about this one from the start, as Colby jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter.  Grace Toner tallied twice, and the Mules controlled possession, holding the Cardinals to only two shots on goal in the first 15 minutes.  Wesleyan fought back in the second quarter, outscoring the Mules 4-3 in the period, and narrowing Colby's lead to 8-5 at the half.

The Mules came out of the break on a tear, scoring five goals on eight shots in the frame, forcing six Wesleyan turnovers, and converting on all of their clears, opening up a 13-5 lead heading into the final quarter.  In the fourth, the two teams traded goals with two apiece, and Colby closed it out to push their record to 4-1 on the season.

Emily Podgorni turned away ten shots in net for the Mules, tallying her third double-digit save effort of the season.  Toner, Julia Jardina, Gianna Bruno, Annie Eddy, and Elizabeth Hennessey all tallied hat tricks on the afternoon.  Toner added four assists for a seven-point effort, and Eddy now leads Colby with 16 goals on the season.

Colby heads even further south to Sparks, Md. for a matchup with Hamilton College on Thursday.  Game time is set for 2:00pm.
