Women's Ice Hockey Wins in Overtime at Hamilton

Clinton, NY - The Colby Women's Hockey team travelled early to Hamilton to challenge the Continentals in a NESCAC weekend matchup.  To beat the storm, the Mules left on Thursday and will spend the weekend playing the Continentals.

In the first period, the Mules had 11 shots on goal to Hamilton's five.  Meg Rittenhouse scored the first goal of the game only 2:29 into the game, with an assist from Lexi Cafiero.  This week, Captain Cafiero received recognition from the NESCAC for her goal and five assists in one week.  Hamilton tied the game at 6:32 and even though Colby maintained possession for the rest of period they were unable to go ahead of Hamilton until the third period.

Hamilton scored two quick goals at the beginning second period and the Mules were unable to score until Colleen Donoghue made the score 3-2 at 16:02 with an assist from Mattie Tremper and Klara Jandusikova.  Despite the unlucky goals at the beginning of the period, Colby maintained possession and control of the game.

Going into the third period, Colby brought the energy to come home with the win.  They scored two goals less than thirty seconds apart.  At 14:05, Anna Staton scored with assist from Paige Larose and Rittenhouse and then again at 14:27 McKinley Karpa scored with an assist from Cafiero.  Hamilton did not give up and tied the game at 18:40.  This is the second time Colby has gone into overtime this season and Jillian Mazzocca only 1:08 with an assist from Rittenhouse and Anna Staton.

Colby will play Hamilton again Saturday February 5th at 3:00pm and then will return to Waterville to challenge Connecticut College the following weekend.
