Amherst, MA - Colby Women's Basketball faced the Amherst Mammoths on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC championships. The Mules fell to the Mammoths, with a final score of 35-65.
The first quarter was the tightest of the game. Both teams came out at a slow pace, landing a few points in the first half of the quarter then going scoreless until the final minute. The Mammoths were able to get ahead of the Mules, entering the second quarter with a score of 8-12. The Mules regained momentum early in the period, upheld by multiple successful shots by Chiamaka Ubani '22. The Mammoths were able to rally in the final few minutes of the half to remain ahead of the Mules, entering the second half with a score of 17-26.
The Mammoths came out aggressive in the third quarter, landing multiple shots and holding the Mules to widen their lead. Bray Hunter '24 led the team in points scored in the quarter, helping the Mules stay on the board. The final quarter began with a score of 30-48. It proved difficult for the Mules to come back, being held by the Mammoths as they rallied 17 more points. The game ended with a final score of 35-65.
Ubani led the Mules in points scored, landing 13, more than a third of the team points. Carly Christofori '22 led the team defensively, making 4 turnovers and 6 rebounds.
