Hartford, CONNECTICUT - The Mules traveled to Hartford, Connecticut yesterday, February 1st to take on the Trinity College Bantams. Colby was fresh off of wins against rivals Bates and Bowdoin before this game and hoped to continue the same trajectory in this match up. They did so perfectly, winning 76-69.
Both halves were close, but it was the Mules that found themselves on top at the end of either. Colby shot 11-25 and 3-9 from three in the half, perfectly efficient enough to outscore the Bantams. It was not elite offense that gave the Mules their lead, but rather elite defense. Trinity took a total of 36 shots in the first half, only hitting 12, and going 4-16 from three thanks to smothering defense that forced the Bantams into tough and heavily contested shots.
The second half was higher scoring, but still saw Colby leave with the lead, shooting 11-22 from the field and 4-11 from three while Trinity failed to shoot above 40% from the field and 30% from three. The Mules also shot very efficiently from the free throw line in the second, 90.48%, doing a great job forcing their way to the line to create easy points and securing them by knocking down free throws. The team had 19 points off free throws in the second half, a stat any team should be ecstatic with.
Matt Hanna had yet another standout performance for the Mules, adding another point to a very impressive season resume. He finished with 22 points, five assists, six boards, and two steals.
Jonah Obi had a terrific performance, scoring 14 points on eight shots and grabbing five rebounds. Finally,
Noah Tyson also had another great game, scoring very efficiently on few attempts. He brought home 11 points on 3-6 shooting, and 2-3 from three.
Colby had a spectacular all around game, forcing Trinity into tough shots while taking their time on offense, moving the ball, and finding the right shot to shoot an efficient 46.8% off 15 assists. The Mules are back in action Friday, February 4th, when they travel back to Connecticut to take on Hamilton College at 7:00 PM. They'll look to push their win streak to five games when they do so.
