Lyme, N.H. - The Colby Alpine Ski Team got another shot with the second day of the Dartmouth Carnival, an unusual double slalom. Conditions were difficult with incredibly soft snow that made pushing on the flat track of the Dartmouth Skiway difficult. Still the Mules brought their dancing shoes.
It was no surprise as Chauncey Morgan lead the Mules with another lights out performance. His 6th place finish on the afternoon matched with his 4th from the Saint Michaels Carnival helped him skyrocket to the top of the Slalom standings. In addition, his second strong Slalom finish should all but guarantee him a spot at NCAA Championships in Park City, Utah in early March.
The men's team was also buoyed by another strong day from Paul Ferri and Owen Croce who skied to 31st and 37th respectively.
The women's team was also once again lead by Freshmen Annaliese Fleck who skied to a seasons best 16th. Her consistency has been rewarding for the Mules as she has scored in every single Slalom race this season. Not far behind her was captain Ella Spear in 28th and Lydia Ridell who returned from a nasty crash at the Colby Carnival, to finish in 29th.Â
In the overall team standings (including Nordic) the Mules stood their ground to finish in 5th (second of Division 3). They finished just 64 points behind Middlebury College.Â
A short prep week for the Mules who will race a rare four races next week. Thursday they will compete in the postponed University of Vermont Carnival at Stowe a Giant Slalom race before two Giant Slaloms and one Slalom at the Middlebury Snow Bowl.Â
