Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Mules Fall to Trinity 2-1

Hartford, Connecticut- The Men's Hockey team played against the Trinity College Bantams this past Sunday afternoon. In the previous matchup between the Mules and Bantams earlier in January, the Mules came away with a 4-2 win. The Mules would eventually lose 2-1 with Andy Beran making thirty saves on the day.

Trinity would score first in the game, going up 1-0 6:28 into the period on an even strength goal. Despite being down early, the Mules would have some chances of their own, but would not be able to tally a goal. Beran would make twelve saves in the period to keep Trinity's lead at 1 going into the second period.

The Mules would get some good looks on the Trinity goaltender at the start of the second period, but once again would not be able to score. Trinity would also get some strong looks against the Mules but would also face the same struggle of the Mules in not being able to score. A late penalty taken by the Mules in the period would unfortunately give the Bantams the perfect opportunity to go into the third period with a two-goal lead and would capitalize on this opportunity. The Mules would have to go into the final twenty minutes of regulation down two goals against a strong Trinity team.

The final twenty minutes of the game got off to a slow start and seemed as though the Mules would be down another goal after giving up another penalty with nine minutes left in the period. After a very strong penalty kill, sophomore Jack Sullivan would score his ninth goal of the season, unassisted to bring the Mules within one goal with just over six minutes to play. The Mules would pull goaltender Andy Beran hoping to score with an extra skater but could not find a way to get the puck across the goal line before the time ran out.

The Mules still hold their top spot in the NESCAC standings, just one-half point ahead of Trinity heading into the final weekend of NESCAC regular season play. With just two games remaining in the regular season, the Mules will play on Friday, February 18, at 7:00 PM against Tufts University at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
