Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Wins Against Tufts 3-0

Waterville, Maine- The Colby Men's Hockey Team took the ice against Tufts University in a NESCAC matchup this Friday night. The Mules still maintain the #1 seed in the NESCAC and would eventually defeat the Jumbos with a score of 3-0.

The Mules would start off the game holding the momentum over Tufts. The Mules would get on the board 9:40 into the period, with junior Alex Bourhas scoring his fifth goal of the year, with Carter Breitenfeldt and Griffin Grise tallying assists. Colby would continue to maintain possession for the rest of the period but would be unable to extend their lead. The Mules would outshoot the Jumbos this period, 9-4.

The second period showed some more even play, but the Jumbos would not be able to generate a chance that would challenge Beran in these twenty minutes. The Mules would outplay the Jumbos, doubling their lead with only twenty-two seconds remaining in the period. Michael Morrissey would score his fourth goal of the season, with Carter Breitenfeldt tallying another assist and Justin Grillo tallying his eleventh assist of the season.

Going into the final period with a 2-0 lead, and a five-minute penalty to kill, the Mules would not give Tufts any room to sneak a puck by Beran. Killing the penalty successfully and generating several short-handed opportunities, the Mules would finish out the remainder of the period continuing to hold possession over the Jumbos. Senior Captain Justin Grillo would tally his ninth goal of the season on an empty net goal, with Michael Morrissey tallying his team-leading fourteenth assist. The Mules would take their second to last regular season game with a 3-0 over the Jumbos. Andy Beran made seventeen saves on the night, earning his fourth shutout of the season.

The Mules will honor their seniors tomorrow, February 19, against Connecticut College in the final regular season game of the season with puck drop slated to be at 3:00 PM and are looking to solidify their spot as the #1 seed for upcoming NESCAC Playoffs.
