Middletown, Connecticut- Men's Ice Hockey made their way down to Wesleyan University to play in a NESCAC matchup against the Cardinals. The Mules had won the previous matchup between the two teams 4-1 and were looking to take their second win against the #2 team in the NESCAC.

The Mules got off to an extremely fast start, as senior
Michael Morrissey would score just thirty seconds into the game, with seniors
Michael Thomas and
Justin Grillo tallying assists early against the Cardinals. Continuing to pressure the Cardinals,
Justin Grillo would find himself a goal at 8:07 of the first after one-timing a shot past the Wesleyan goaltender.
Michael Morrissey and
Carter Breitenfeldt would tally assists. The Mules would have a power play opportunity but would not be able to convert against the Cardinals. The Mules would show strong defense and penalty kills this period, with
Andy Beran making six saves, and would go into the second period with 1:25 remaining on their power play.

At the start of the second, it appeared the Mules had given up a short-handed goal, but it would be called off to keep the Mules with a 2-0 advantage. Colby would be unable to score on their power play to start the period but would continue to put pressure on the Cardinals. The Cardinals would have some chances of their own, eventually finding the back of net 15:17 into the period to cut the Mules' lead down to one. Beran would make ten more saves this period and the Mules would finish the period trailing in total shots on goal through forty minutes 16-14.

Wesleyan would pressure the Mules early in the third, drawing penalties against the Mules early. Luckily, the power play for the Mules would continue to kill penalties, the Mules would give up the tying goal to the Cardinals at 8:41 into the third period. Both teams would exchange a set of power plays in the remaining time of the third, but either team would be able to score to take the lead. After sixty minutes of play, the Mules and Cardinals would head into a five minute 3-on-3 overtime period, with the Mules starting with a thirty-three second penalty kill.

The overtime play between the Mules and Cardinals would be fairly matched. The Mules were easily able to kill off the remaining time of the penalty taken in the third period and would have serveral strong chances against Wesleyan to find the back of the net. Wesleyan also had their share of shots, but
Andy Beran would deny any chance the Cardinals had in overtime. The game would finish in a 2-2 tie, both goalies playing exceptionally well in this matchup. Beran would finish with twenty-seven saves on the night to tie the Cardinals.

The Mules will play tomorrow afternoon at 4 PM against Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
