Waterville, Maine- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey Team competed against the University of New England Nor'Easters winning the game 9-1. This game marks the Mules' 6th straight win bringing them to 6-0-0 for the season and 2-0-0 in the NESCAC conference. This also marks the fourth straight win for the Mules against the Nor'Easters in the last five years.
Colby quickly showed the versatility of their roster and their scoring ability with nine goals throughout the game coming from six different skaters.
Stephanie Lane scored both of the first two goals of the game, both of the goals being off assists by
Courtney Schumacher and the second goal also being off an assist by
Abby Wick, as well as scoring the eighth goal of the game off an assist by
Meg Rittenhouse.
Courtney Schumacher was easily able to find her teammates and help them create goals getting an assist of a goal by
Jillian Mazzocca in addition to her two assists to
Stephanie Lane.
Jillian Mazzocca was able to find the goal twice in the second period.
Megan Martodam,
Meg Rittenhouse,
Tate Senden, and
McKinley Karpa scored one goal each.
Colby's relative ease in the game allowed for some newer players to take the spotlight. This is
Megan Martodam's first collegiate game and first collegiate goal. Goalkeeper
Grace Caligiuri also recorded five saves in her first collegiate game.
Colby College Women's Ice Hockey will face off against the SUNY Postdam Bears in the first game of the Castleton Tournament on Friday at 7:00 pm.
