Boston, Mass.- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey Team played their second game in a row in the rink at UMass Boston for the championship game of the Codfish Bowl. The Mules downed the Bowdoin College Polar Bears 4-1, to become the new champions of the Codfish Bowl bringing Colby to a perfect 3-0 to begin the season.
Colby managed to score 3 goals in the first period alone, the first being during a powerplay at 15:33 by
Tate Senden off an assist by
McKinley Karpa. Only two minutes later at 17:40,
Stephanie Lane recovered after two blocked shot attempts by teammates to get her 1st goal of the season and Colby's 2nd of the game with an assist by
Anna Staton. In the final two minutes
Tate Senden scored another goal to bring the Mules to 3-0 off another assist by
Meg Rittenhouse for
Meg Rittenhouse's 3rd assist this season. In the 2nd period, no goals were scored by either team, however, Colby kept a strong defensive presence preventing Bowdoin from scoring off the powerplay with
Paige Bolyard getting four saves in less than a minute.
Paige Bolyard's 28 saves were both a season-high and a career-high. Although Bowdoin was able to score a goal in the 15th minute of the 3rd period, Colby was able to come back and score a goal with less than 30 seconds left with
Meg Rittenhouse and
Tate Senden once again teaming up on the goal, but with
Meg Rittenhouse scoring the goal and
Tate Senden assisting.
Next Friday the Mules go to Brunswick, Maine to play against the Bowdoin Polar Bears in the first NESCAC game of the season.
