Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Mules Win in First Round of Codfish Bowl

Boston, Mass.- The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey Team arrived at UMass Boston to face the Beacons in the first round of the 15th Annual Women's Boston Codfish Bowl. Colby knocked out last year's runner-ups with a 3-0 victory in order to move on to the championship game.

In the first period, the Mules once again came out aggressive with freshman Beth Sinson scoring the first goal of her collegiate career four minutes into the game. With 6:41 left in the first period the Beacons put up one of their best opportunities but Paige Bolyard blocked the shot a theme that would continue for the rest of the game displaying her defensive prowess. Paige Bolyard also made a huge block at 13:43 along with another save with 2:20 left in the second period allowing Colby to keep the score at 1-0 going into the third period. Colby's continued diligence on the defensive end allowed them to stay in the game despite an offensive push by the Beacons. In the third period, a 5v3 powerplay by the Beacons was stopped by another save by Paige Bolyard and an impressive deflection by Meg Rittenhouse that sent the puck to the other side of the court while the time on the penalty ran out. At 12:04 Jo Tattersall scored a goal allowing Colby to safely go up 2-0 followed by a 2-on-1 play by Meg Rittenhouse and McKinley Karpa keeping Colby at 3-0 to finish out and win the game.

Tomorrow Colby plays the reigning champions the Bowdoin Polar Bears in the Codfish Bowl Championship in Boston.
