New York City, NEW YORK - The Colby Women's Basketball team took the first loss of their season Wednesday, taking on the New York University Violets. The Mules faced a tough defeat of 37-80, falling to 3-1.
NYU jumped out early, building a 22-10 lead after the first frame. Unfortunately the deficit grew in the second frame, with the scoring being 37-14 at half. The Violets won the third quarter as well, pushing their lead to 61-20 heading into the final frame. The Mules were able to battle in the fourth quarter, putting up 17 points to go out fighting.
Three Mules tied for the team lead in points with seven:
Gabrielle Hemenes who also had six rebounds;
Caroline Smith; and
Bray Hunter.
Chelsea Ibenegbu had another strong defense game for Colby, forcing three steals for the third consecutive game. Ibenegbu also had four points of her own.
The Mules are back in action Tuesday, November 29th, hosting Maine Maritime Academy at 7:00 PM.
