Gorham, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to the University of Southern Maine to face off against the Huskies. The Mules won the game 7-2 starting off the season at 1-0.
Within the first 15 minutes of the first game the Mules proved to be an absolute powerhouse. Both teams exchanged shots early on with
Paige Bolyard blocking an attempted goal and setting the scene for the energetic play to come. The Women's Ice Hockey team scored four goals in the 1st period with a goal at 2:54 by
Meg Rittenhouse, assisted by
McKinley Karpa. Karpa scored a goal herself not even four minutes later at 6:40. In the 10th minute two goals were scored one by
Sophia Kennedy and
Breanna Studley, resulting in a change in net for the Huskies.
In the 2nd period Rittenhouse was able to get her 2nd goal of the game. In the 3rd and final frameÂ
Audrey Shirer scored the first goal of her collegiate career, and Kennedy netted the final Colby goal in the 18th minute on a power play.
On November 26th the Mules will be traveling to Boston to play at UMass Boston for the Codfish Bowl.Â
