Middlebury, Vermont- Colby Men's Hockey opened their 2022-2023 season in a NESCAC matchup against the Middlebury College Panthers this afternoon.

The first period included back and forth penalties, with the Mules capitalizing on their second power play of the day.
Jake MacDonald gave Colby their first goal of the season,
John McElaney and
Henry Molson earning assists. Middlebury would score just seven minutes into the second period to tie the game. Despite sacrificing a goal, the Mules would have a pivotal 5 on 3 penalty kill this period. Heading into the final twenty minutes, Colby wound up on another power play just over halfway into the third. Molson would find the back of the net, giving the Mules a 2-1 advantage, McElaney earning his second assist on the day and junior
Jack Sullivan also recording an assist. The Panthers would tie the game with four minutes to play to force the game to overtime. In overtime, Colby once again found themselves on the power play. This time, freshman
Tyler Crist would score the winner,
Ryan Doolin and
Nick Stapleton earning assists on the game-winning goal. The Mules capitalized on three of their six power plays on the day, and successfully killing all penalties. Junior
Andy Beran would make 33 saves on the day for Colby.

The Mules are back in action tomorrow against Williams College in Williamstown, MA with puck drop at 4 pm.
