Medford, Mass. - Colby traveled to Massachusetts on Saturday to take on a strong Tufts team. The 5-1-1 Jumbos proved why they rank second in the NESCAC with impressive play.
The Mules struggled in the first half with Tufts dominating possession. They outshot the Mules 11-2 in the half with keeper
Emily McMaster making three saves in the first 45. The Jumbos found the back of the net twice in the half with goals in the 15th and 29th minutes. The game remained that way through the rest of the half.
Colby's play improved significantly in the second half and although the Jumbos managed their third goal in the 47th minute Colby added one of their own in the 52nd minute when Senior
Sophie Webb got her first goal of the season. Despite outshooting Tufts in the second half 6-4 and having the halves only corner kick the game remained 3-1.
Webb lead the Mules with three shots, two on net.
Kaleigh Quinn coming off the bench had two shots, one on net and
Selah Barrett and
Jackie Portogallo had one each.
Despite the loss the schedule now turns in the Mules favor. Having battled five of the best six teams in the NESCAC the Mules get a non-conference tune-up on the road against Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday before traveling to Middlebury and Hamilton next weekend for another NESCAC double header. They sit at 3-5 on the year and 0-5 in conference.
