New London, CONNECTICUT- Colby traveled to New London, yesterday, January 8th, to take on the 5-4 Connecticut College Camels. The game tipped off at 7:00 and looked to be a good game for the Mules. Colby Men's Basketball propelled to a 31-20 lead at the half, but ultimately couldn't hang on to that lead, losing 69-63.
In the first half, Colby shot efficiently from the field, shooting 42.86% and 33.33% from three on 18 attempts. The numbers aren't eye popping, but they were effective enough to outshoot and outscore the Camels in the first. Conn was 28.13% from the field and 11.11% from three in the first.
Unfortunately, the Mules couldn't hang onto their advantage, quickly slipping from an 11 point lead to a 6 point deficit. Throughout the game Connecticut was able to get in transition, scoring 22 points in transition and 24 off turnovers, far more than Colby was able to produce (10 and 10). The loss could be blamed on this, or the lack of efficiency from three point in the second half, shooting only 4/18.
Even with the difficult defeat Colby saw a strong game from
Kyle Butler, who cashed in 15 points on 13 shots, to pair with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Matt Hanna also had an excellent performance, posting a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Finally,
Noah Tyson also performed well, scoring 13 points, hauling in seven rebounds, and rejecting one shot for one of Colby's two blocks, the other of which belonged to Hanna.
The Mules will look to change their momentum during the road swing when they travel to Mitchell College on Sunday, January 9th, at 12:00 PM.
