Colby Men's Basketball continued their set of road games, yesterday, January 9th, against the Mitchell College Mariners. The game began as a potential victory for the Mules, but they quickly lost momentum, and, ultimately failed to stop the momentum switch. Colby Basketball lost the game 81-92.
The first half began with the Mules shooting proficiently, but certainly not their best. They shot 44.7% from the field, but struggled severely from beyond the arc, cashing in on 13.3% of their takes. Even still, it was enough to win the first half advantage, as the Mariners struggled to hit any shots, heading to the locker room 0/5 from three point. Colby entered half time leading 40-36.
The tone of the game shifted quickly after the two teams returned from intermission. Mitchell College came out attempting less threes (only two) and simply attacked the basket. The Mules weren't able to withstand the attack, quickly losing their lead and giving up 56 points in the second half.
Matt Hanna did his best to keep Colby in the game, scoring 15 points on 8 attempts. However, it just wasn't enough. The Mules lost in come from behind fashion.
Even still,
Matt Hanna played terrifically, scoring 24 points, collecting five rebounds, and dishing out three assists. He also snagged one steal. The only other true standout for Colby Basketball was
Jack Lawson who scored 18 points and played phenomenal defensively. Lawson brought in nine rebounds, blocked one shot, and ripped away two steals from the Mariners.
The Colby College Mules will look to change their trajectory when they host Middlebury College on Friday, January 14th, at 7:00 PM.
