Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Mules Fall to Continentals 3-1

Clinton, New York- The Mules Men's Ice Hockey team travelled over to Hamilton College in a NESCAC matchup this past Friday night. The Mules were looking to continue their winning streak and keep the momentum following Tuesday night's win against #9 Endicott.

During the first period the Mules saw several scoring opportunities but were unable to capitalize on their nine shots on goal. Tensions began to rise at some points, but the Mules were able to hold their composure and draw a penalty just over thirteen minutes into the period. Unable to capitalize the Mules would finish off the period with Austen Halpin going to the box for an elbowing penalty with fifteen seconds left.

The Mules started off the second period strong, killing off the remaining time on Halpin's penalty. At 6:34 of the period, junior Alex Bourhas put the Mules up 1-0 after receiving the puck from Carter Breitenfeldt in front of the net and made a move to the right to beat the Hamilton goaltender and find the back of the net. Breitenfeldt and Justin Grillo would both get credited with assists. The Mules would finish off the second period with eight shots on goal and unable to capitalize on another power play opportunity,

Despite the Mules leading through the first 40 minutes, the final period was a different story. Despite leading 1-0 the Mules gave up several opportunities that Hamilton would be able to capitalize on. Hamilton tied the game 1-1 on a power play goal and would add to their lead just under four minutes later to take the 2-0 lead. With just under ten minutes remaining the Mules had a five-minute power play, giving up a shorthanded goal to the Continentals. The Mules would not be able to spark a comeback in the remaining five minutes of the game and would lose 3-1.

The Mules play tomorrow, January 8, at 3 PM in a NESCAC matchup against Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts.
