Hartford, Conn. - The Mules stayed the weekend and Trinity to challenge the Bantams at 1:00pm on Sunday. The game was fast-paced and dominated by the Mules, however it was difficult to put any goals on the board until late in the third period.
In the first period, the Bantams got off to a quick start, sneaking a goal past Nina Prunster a mere 47 seconds in, to put Trinity up 1-0. Despite this, the Mules maintained possession and momentum for nearly the entire period. Unfortunately, they were unable to score even having multiple point-blank opportunities. The Mules finished the period with 15 shots on goal and Prunster made five saves.
Early in the second period Colby gave up two penalties, allowing the Bantams 1:51 with a two-player advantage. The Mules were able to kill this penalty with Prunster making several saves to keep the Mules within one point of their opponent. The Mules had their own 5-3 opportunity, and despite getting quality shots on the Bantam's goaltender, they were unable to score. Prunster had a total of ten saves and the team had 18 shots on goal. The Mules were clearly maintaining the ability to control the game, despite the score not falling in their favor.

Colby remained scoreless through the third period until 15:31 when Mules captain
Lexi Cafiero (pictured left) scored a short-handed goal to tie the game. Colby remained in control the rest of regulation but were unable to score another goal. The Mules headed into overtime with eight more saves and 12 more shots on goal. At the start of overtime, the Mules were playing 4-3 against the Bantams because the penalties from regulation carry over. Just like the entire regulation time, Colby controlled the game.
Bri Michaud-Nolan scored the winning goal 3:21 into the OT period to win the game 2-1.
The Mules walked away with a successful NESCAC-weekend against the Bantams. Over the course of the weekend, the Mules scored nine goals to the Bantam's one, had 98 shots on goal, and Prunster walked away with 48 saves. Colby Women's Hockey will travel to Hamilton, New York to challenge the Continentals on February 4th at 7:00pm and February 5th at 3:00pm. The Mules have three weekends left in the regular season before they are expected to head deep into the playoffs.
