Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Loses 2-1 Against #1 Ranked Middlebury

Waterville, Maine – The Mules challenged the #1-ranked Panthers for the second time this weekend and lost 2-1.  The Mules fought hard and were able to control the flow of the game for much of the third period, but were unable to put it in the net one final time to tie the game.

In the first period, the Panthers scored off a power-play opportunity at 6:40.  The Mules let rip 14 shots to Middlebury's 16.  Nina Prunster put 10 saves up for the Mules and remained composed throughout the period despite many calls not going in favor of her team.

wickGoing into the second period, the Mules were down by one, but not disheartened.  The Mules scored from Abby Wick (pictured left) and assisted by Tate Senden only 2:32 into the period.  The Panthers were unable to score again until 19:48, sending them into the break up 2-1 over the Mules.  Colby out shot Middlebury 17-11 and neither team had any power play opportunities.  Prunster tacked on 8 saves during the period that contributed the Mules' success.

Colby absolutely dominated in the third period and maintained possession of the puck most of the time.  Colby released 24 shots to the Middlebury's 11.  Unfortunately, the Panthers were able to hold off the Mules attack and the game ended 2-1 in favor of Middlebury.  Prunster finished the game with 22 saves and the team had 55 shots.  The Mules will likely see the Panthers again in the post season, giving them time to get the goals to fall.

The Mules will play Wesleyan again on Tuesday January 25th at 4:00pm in Waterville and next weekend the will travel to Trinity College for another NESCAC matchup weekend.  We ask that no spectators outside of the Colby testing regimen attend games during January.  Check back at the beginning of spring semester for an updated COVID protocol and for now, please enjoy the live stream from your own home.
