Jeffersonville, Vt. - The Colby Alpine Ski Team took on the steep pitch of the Pipeline Express at Smugglers' Notch for the first day of competition of the Saint Michael's Carnival. A week after multiple top-20 results and a 4th place finish for the men in GS, the Mules took a step up, placing fourth in both the men's and women's races and lodging a skier in the top-10 for each.
Tucker Strauch continues his hot start of the year, topping last week's 14th place in GS with a 5th place at Smuggs. The top-10 finishers were so close, just over one second separated first place from 10th. Staying consisent, teammate
Patrick Coughlin slotted in once again in 15th, and
Chauncey Morgan notched his second top-20 result of the year finishing 20th.
Matt Price had a great day from bib 70, moving up to 27th place. The top three finishers combined to score 84 points, behind only UVM (100), UNH (103), and host Saint Michael's (127).
Ella Spear returned from illness to give the women's team an incredible boost. Starting with bib 27, Spear launched herself into 7th place after first run and held on to that spot after second run. Teammate
Meagan Olsen joined her in the top-10, placing 9th.
Charlotte Maurer (25th) and
Cassie Lieblein (28th) gave Colby two more skiers in the top-30, and the women placed fourth with 85 points behind UVM (107), Dartmouth (109), and Middlebury (120).
