Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Welcomes the New Year with a 9-0 Win Against Plymouth State

Colby Women's Hockey Starts the New Year with a dominant win against Plymouth State University.  The Mules returned to campus early to begin post-finals and holiday training and started the second leg of their season with an out-of-conference game against the Panthers.

Colby started off the game with strength and energy.  They scored five goals in the first period starting just under five minutes into the game.  Three of their goals in the first period were power play goals.  The Mules had five different goal scorers in the first period started by Jillian Mazzocca followed by Lexi Cafiero, Bri Michaud-Nolan, Sadie Kuhn, and Tate Senden.  The Mules were bound to bury many goals with 17 shots on goal to Plymouth State's two shots.  The women set themselves up for a successful afternoon, but did not let up in pressure against their opponents.  In the second period, Colby tacked on two more goals from Klara Jandusikova 2:55 into the period and Mazzocca 18:18 into the period.  Colby had only nine shots on goal, different from the first period.  Plymouth State improved in this stat with five shots on goal but were unable to get past the Colby defense, led by keeper Nina Prunster.

sendenColby regained composure in the third period with 18 more shots on goal.  The Mules were there to play the entire 60 minutes which will prove helpful in more competitive NESCAC conference matchups.  Colby scored two more goals, both from Senden, at 8:01 and 13:39.  Senden finished the day with an impressive hat trick and Colby had six different goal-scorers and assists from seven more.Colby defense had their fourth shutout of the season against the Panthers, showing a strong defensive unit that allows few shots and saves many, if not all, of the shots that are released.  Plymouth State was only to release 12 shots the entire game and the Mules finished the game 9-0.

The Mules will play Wesleyan University at home on January 7th and 8th at 7:00pm and 3:00pm, respectively.  As we continue to manage COVID, there will be no in-person spectators permitted on campus who are not part of the Colby Community during the month of January.  Please continue to check College policies as the season progresses.  The games will be streamed from the schedule page of the Women's Ice Hockey website.
