Carrabassett Valley, MAINE - The Colby Ski team, Alpine and Nordic combined, concluded the 2022 Colby Carnival with a 5th place finish out of the 14 universities competing. The University of Vermont (1st), Dartmouth College, Middlebury College, and the University of New Hampshire were the only institutions to outpace the Mules.
Fresh off his stellar performance in the Giant Slalom Friday,
Tucker Strauch once again led the Mules in Sunday's Slalom, moving from bib 36 to place 12th. Strauch was the 4th American-born finisher. After hiking first run, both
Patrick Coughlin and
Jack Schaede were able to battle the immense pitch of the Narrow Gauge, Cribworks section, to finish 33rd and 43rd respectively and help the Mules finish 7th out of the 13 alpine teams competing.
On the women's side,
Meagan Olsen and
Annaliese Fleck both punched their first run into the flip, and secured top-20 results with terrific second runs. Olsen finished 14th with Fleck only 0.8 seconds behind in 20th.
Cassie Lieblein snuck into the top-30, finishing 28th and helping the Mules secure 6th place on the day.
The Mules are back in action on Friday when they travel to Smugglers Notch for the second stop in the 6-part Carnival circuit. Saint Michaels College will host the Giant Slalom on Friday, followed by the Slalom on Saturday.
