Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Defeats Wesleyan

Waterville, Maine- The Mules Men's Hockey team faced off in their second NESCAC game of the weekend against defending NESCAC champions Wesleyan University. The Mules were looking to improve to 5-2 in conference play and finishing their weekend with two wins.

Playing with only 15 skaters for the second consecutive day, the Mules got off to a bit of a slow start, but Brian Sanzone would score his second goal of the season with assists credited to Drew Burke and Derek Hessinger on a delayed penalty just under nine minutes into the game. Possession would go back and forth between the Mules and Wesleyan for the remainder of the period. With just over two minutes remaining in the period, John McElaney would score off a feed from Henry Molson, after winning the face off in the offensive zone. The Mules would head into the second period leading 2-0, despite being out-shot 10-8.

Wesleyan would start the second period off by putting lots of pressure on the Mules, quickly getting a goal to cut the Mules' lead in half just over two minutes into the period. The Mules would find themselves shorthanded ten minutes into the period, but a strong counterattack and crashing the net would allow sophomore Jack Sullivan to collect his fourth goal of the season at 11:19, to put the Mules up 3-1 heading into the final twenty.

The Mules maintained steady possession in the third period against Wesleyan, despite shots being even for the period. The Mules' penalty kill looked very strong tonight, killing off a 5-on-3 power play opportunity for Wesleyan with ease. Jack Sullivan would come along to score his fifth goal of the season and second of the game after Connor Blanchard fed John McElaney in front of the net, who dropped it back to Sullivan. The Mules would win 4-1 and improve 5-2 in NESCAC play and 7-3 overall.

The Mules play again on Friday, January 21, at 7:00 PM in a NESCAC matchup against Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
