Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Colby Up at the Half, Slips Behind #22 Williams

Waterville, MAINE- Colby Men's Basketball hosted the 11-1 Williams College Ephs yesterday, January 15th, at 3:00 PM.

Once again the game began well, and the basketball team found themselves up three at half time, 31-28. The Mules out shot, out rebounded, and out scored the Ephs in this half, converting on 44.8% of their shots from the field while Williams only shot 34.6% from the field. Colby also brought in 14 rebound to Williams' 13. Matt Hanna was a big part of the teams success in the first half, he shot 3/4 for 7 points and had one assist. However, a lot of Hanna's contribution does not show on the stat sheet. He is able to slow the game down and get the ball moving for all of his teammates, leading to open shots and good rhythmic basketball. When watching the game, it is clear that Hanna is needed on the offensive side of the ball.

The game quickly fell apart in the second half. Williams really just turned it on for the second half, they got better looks and converted on them more often. In the second half the Ephs converted on 54.48% of their field goals, 50.00% of their three pointers, and 87.50% of their free throws. The simple truth is, basketball games are going to be lost when a teams opponent shoots like that. Williams reached the largest lead of the game (19) with only 37 seconds left, truly closing the door on any sort of positive take away for the Mules.

Besides Matt Hanna, who finished with 10 points, 3 rebound, two assists, a nice chase down block on a much bigger player, and a steal, the only other player worth noting was Will King. In his first game back after a few absences, King put together a solid overall performance against one of the tougher opponents in the conference. Will put together 12 points on 5/11 shooting and 1/2 from three, but he also quietly put together 7 assists demonstrating his ability to move the ball around and control game flow. He also contributed defensively with two steals.

Colby Men's Basketball will look to end their four game losing streak when they take on Husson University in a road match up on Tuesday, January 18th, at 7:00 PM.
