Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

After Delay, Mules Top Nor'Easters

Waterville, MAINE - The wait was worth the while.  The soccer game between the Colby Mules and the University of New England Nor'Easters was delayed over an hour Tuesday night due to transportation issues, but when the clock started, the Mules charged.  Behind two goals from Josh Rubin (headline photo), Colby defeated UNE 4-0, improving their record to 3-3-1 on the season.  UNE fell to 1-8.

Almost as if the Mules didn't want their fans to wait any longer, Colby jumped out early with a pair of goals by Josh Rubin and Ethan Franco within the first six minutes of play.  Rubin's first tally came off an assist by Josh Lauer.  Franco's fifth goal of the season (tied for NESCAC lead) came unassisted.  Rubin added his second of the night at the 26-minute mark, giving the junior four on the season.

In the second half, the Mules proved they were not content to coast with a lead.  Colby continued pressure up and down the field, pummeling the UNE keeper with shot after shot.  The Nor'Easters managed only two second-half shots on goal while the Mules put seven on the UNE goaltender.  With the aggressive assault within the 18, Max Farner was able to score Colby's final goal with an assist credited to Sam Wilson.   Colby Goaltender Brendon McCarthy stopped all five shots on goal in the 90 minutes.

The Mules next play this Saturday in front of a Homecoming crowd on Mayflower Hill.  Colby hosts Hamilton College at 2:00pm, and the event also marks the official dedication of the Mark Serdjenian Field.
