Waterville, Maine - Colby Men's Soccer faced the Hamilton Continentals Saturday for their Homecoming game and fourth NESCAC match of the season. Played tightly the entire way, the Mules emerged victorious with a final score of 2-1, improving to 4-3-1 on the season and moving up to 6th in the NESCAC standings.
The first period saw a lot of scrappy play with multiple fouls on both sides and a yellow card on Hamilton. The Mules had an offensive showing with shots on goal by
Ethan Fabricant '22,
Ethan Franco '24 and
Max Farner '23. The team broke through in the final minutes of the period when
Josh Rubin '23 successfully scored on the Continental's goal.
Rubin was able to bookend the halftime break, scoring early in the second half as well. He scored his second goal of the match (fourth goal of the week) in the seventh minute of the period, assisted by
Colin Sullivan '22. The Continentals responded aggressively, making 12 attempts at the goal, many of which were saved by keeper
Brendan McCarthy '25. Hamilton's Thomas Kantrowitz successfully scored in the 80th minute of the game, but the cushion built by the Mules proved to be enough.
The day also saw the official dedication of the Mark R. Serdjenian Field. Serdjenian was a longtime coach of the Men's Soccer program, also holding positions in the Dean of Students office and other leadership roles across Colby's Department of Athletics (Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach, Interim Women's Soccer Coach).
Colby next faces the Bowdoin Polar Bears at home on Tuesday, October 5th at 8 PM EST.
