Men's Soccer Fall 2-3 Against Saint Joseph's College of Maine

Standish, Maine - The Colby Mules traveled down the road to Standish, Maine on Tuesday to play Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a game under the lights. The final box score of the game was 2-3 with Saint Joseph's taking the lead. The loss for Colby brings the Mules overall record to 2-3-0 while Saint. Joseph improves to 3-0-2.

A shot from Nicholas Lemire, saved by St. Joseph's keeper, in the seventh minute of play, started out the first half. In the 12th minute of play, St. Joe's player scored the first and only goal of the half, bringing the box score to 0-1. Following the goal, the Mules played with determination. Colby defensive player Aboubacar Traore took a shot on goal, saved by St. Joe's keeper two minutes after the first goal from St. Joe's. Following this shot there were several penalty kicks from outside the 18 yard box for Colby, often creating turbulence for St. Joe's, as the Colby players crowded the goal. In the 23rd minute a shot from Colby's Justin Lauer was fired at the net, but saved by St. Joe's keeper. A few more shots were fired from the Mules, with only one header shot from St. Joe's. The first half ended after a shot from Nicholas Lemire was saved by St. Joe's keeper at the end of the 44th minute. The half closed with a box score of 0-1 St. Joe's leading. 

In the second minute of the second half the Colby Mules evened the score. A goal from Colby's Paul Hawkins, assisted by Justin Lauer, brought the box score up to 1-1 for a tie game. Two shots from Ethan Fabricant, saved by St. Joe's keeper followed in the fourth and fifth minute of the half. Two more shots on net from Colby players in the next few minutes of play followed, but were saved. Soon the game shifted as St. Joseph's scored their second goal, in the 15th minute of play. This goal brought the score to 1-2 putting St. Joe's back in the lead. For the next 15 minutes the score board remained the same. The Mules, after multiple attempts to reach the goal, were blocked by St. Joe's defense, finally put a ball in the net. With ten minutes remaining, Colby's Josh Rubin scored the second goal of the game for the Mules. This brought the score to 2-2, making it a tie game for the second time of the night. With the clock dwindling down, the St. Joe's offense stepped up and scored again, in the last five minutes of the half. The goal from St. Joe's put the box score at 2-3. The game ended after a shot from Colin Sullivan was saved by St. Joe's keeper in the last minute of play. The final box score for the game was 2-3 with Saint Joseph's in the lead. 

The Mules play again on Saturday (25th) at 3:00 pm against Tufts University.
